Boatman missing at Chalillo
Three days after twenty-six year old Jeramine Orosco mysteriously disappeared somewhere along the banks of the upper Macal River there is still no word of his whereabouts. Orosco, a boat captain, is an employee of David Penner, a contractor hired by BECOL to clean the Chalillo reservoir impoundment area.
Reports are that around seven on Monday morning Orosco left in his aluminium skiff with forty horsepower engine from a camp near the Chalillo Dam to go and pick up some fellow workers, but he never reached his destination. The workers became concerned and when they searched the river they found the vessel only five minutes away from where Orosco was suppose to have picked up his colleagues. The boat’s engine was still running but its captain was nowhere to be seen. The only items found inside the vessel were Orosco’s slippers which was not unusual because it was normal practice for him to remove his footwear after getting in the boat.
At this time authorities do not suspect foul play but are considering the possibility
that Orosco either fell overboard or is lost in the woods. The Police and B.D.F. soldiers have been searching the area around Chalillo but at newstime no sign of Orosco had been found.
