Forced carnal case committed to trial
A thirty-eight year old shopkeeper spent five months in jail after being charged for the Carnal Knowledge of a thirteen year old girl. The accused man, Arden Middleton was granted bail of twenty thousand dollars in December, 2011 and he was back in court today for the conclusion of a preliminary inquiry. Chief Magistrate, Ann Marie Smith committed Middleton’s case to go to trial at the Supreme Court. In the PI, Middleton was unrepresented and did not challenge the evidence against him, which includes statements from the thirteen year old victim, the arresting officer and the social worker assigned to the case. Pictures taken by Scenes of Crime personnel, a chain of custody form, a medical legal form and other documents were also submitted into evidence. Middleton, on the other hand, says he has four alibi witnesses to testify on his behalf. He was again released on bail; this time in the sum of ten thousand dollars. The minor alleges that she was at Wilt’s Place in Belize City on July thirteenth and asked Middleton to direct her to the restroom. She claims that he followed her inside and sex with her against her will. Middleton’s case is scheduled for the April session of the Supreme Court.
