Gegg says W. Landivar is not strictly residential
On Monday night members of a West Landivar citizens group were unyielding in their objection to a project planned by businessman, David Gegg. And while it appears that government will follow those residents’ wishes and stop any construction, today Gegg told us that the move makes no sense since there is ample precedent for such development in the area.
David Gegg, Developer
“There are apartment complexes, there are several hotels, there are many stores, shops, and offices. There is a factory that manufactures plastic bags smack-dab in the middle of the neighbourhood. But in addition to that, let’s look at the educational institutions; U.B. is behind me, Saint John’s College is across the way, U.W.I. Centre, BIM, Universal Health Services, the development in Landivar–West Landivar–is very diverse. The municipal airport is just around the corner and planes are taking off and landing all day long; nothing creates more noise than that.”
Marion Ali
“So you will have fuel pumps, you will have–in the event of a storm or hurricane–you will have people being subjected to flying objects from the area.”
David Gegg
“Those things pose no threat whatsoever.”
The residents group says it merely wishes to retain what it says is the quiet residential character of the neighbourhood.
