No breaks in Santa Elena but cops accused of brutality
There are no new breaks in the investigation into the weekend of deadly violence in Santa Elena. On Monday, San Ignacio police arrested and charged twenty-five year old Ruben Echeverria for Attempted Murder saying he is the man who stabbed Justin Gordon several times in the back outside of the Galindo residence on Perez Street.
Ecehverria was granted bail in the amount of six thousand dollars, but while he is back home with his family and more than likely will attend his brother’s funeral, authorities say they are still investigating to determine whether or not it was Ruben who may have accidentally shot and killed his younger sibling, seventeen year old Marvin Echeverria, and then also shot himself in the foot.
Around six-thirty on Saturday evening, Marvin, Ruben and Myro Echeverria along with others, went to the Galindo residence to look for Jorge and David Galindo, with whom they reportedly have a longstanding feud. Witnesses claim the Echeverria brothers were armed with a gun and stones. Police say at this time they still have a number of other people detained and that there are no leads in the shooting of two police officers and a Scenes of Crime technician who had returned to the location to collect evidence but came under fire by at least three unidentified gunmen.
In related news, family members of Jesus de la Fuente, a young man picked up by police on Sunday afternoon, tell News Five that prior to his release today, De la Fuente was badly beaten by several officers at the San Ignacio Police Station. His mother claims that Jesus told her they put a plastic bag over his head and beat him in the face, saying that if he told anyone, they would kill him. De la Fuente was treated for bruises and a small facial cut at La Loma Luz Hospital. He was allegedly detained on suspicion of being involved in the shooting of the police officers.
