Man drowns in Placencia Lagoon
Police in Independence are tonight investigating an apparent drowning that occurred near Mango Creek on Sunday. According to officials of TMM Yacht Vacations, around six Sunday evening one of their employees, thirty-five-year-old Estevan Nab, used one of the company’s small inflatable boats to transport a co-worker from their base in Placencia across the lagoon to Mango Creek. Five and a half hours later, Nab was spotted leaving the Mango Creek dock. But this morning, TMM got a call that their dingy had been spotted drifting in the waters between the two villages. Nab’s co-workers recovered the vessel and immediately launched a search in coordination with local authorities. Around one fifteen this afternoon, Nab’s body was discovered floating less than a mile from where the boat was found. We understand that there were no apparent signs of violence to the corpse and no damage to the dingy. The body has since been transferred to the Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga with the post mortem scheduled to take place in Belize City. Nab, originally from Orange Walk, had been with TMM for several years and was based at the company’s San Pedro facility. For the past month, he was one of several employees doing maintenance work on TMM’s yachts in Placencia.
