Weekend shootings hit San Pedro, Belize City
Two shooting incidents over the weekend have left victims under medical care. On Saturday night in San Pedro Town twenty-two year old Uwani Nunez was injured, apparently by a stray bullet. According to police, Nunez was standing in front of Big Daddy’s Club around eleven on Saturday night when he heard a shot and felt a burning in his right leg. When police arrived they apprehended a suspect, twenty-three year old Knox Cumberbatch of the San Juan area, carrying a thirty-eight revolver with three expended shells. Apparently, Cumberbatch was embroiled in an argument in the bar and fired three shots, one of which found its mark in the unsuspecting Nunez. He was treated at the Lion’s Clinic. Cumberbatch has been charged with Attempted Murder, Grievous Harm, Use of Deadly Means of Harm, Carrying an Unlicensed Firearm and Discharging a Firearm in Public.
Meanwhile, twenty-four hours later in Belize City, twenty-six year old Jason Gentle was wounded while riding his bike in the Port Loyola area. Gentle, a resident of Jane Usher Boulevard, was riding on Monroe Street and when he reached the intersection of Boots Crescent, he was assaulted by another bike rider who fired several shots, one of which hit Gentle in the chest. He remains in critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Police are seeking one man for questioning.
