Robbers take $40,000 from Ladyville gas station
Forty grand is a lot of cash… and right now two armed robbers who stole it are sweating. This morning I visited the scene of the crime.
Martin Zuniga, Attendant, Esso Gas Station
“Two armed male persons came into the place. It happened so fast. They came and they held up the place, took away all the money and went away.”
Jacqueline Godwin, Reporting
The Esso gas station in Ladyville Village had only been open fifteen minutes when four of its employees and a lone customer were taken by surprise by a pair of thieves around six-fifteen this morning.
Martin Zuniga
“They didn’t ask us to empty our pockets or something of that sort. They went straight for the manager and got what they wanted.”
The robbers described as dark and fair complexioned young men were after the day sales from Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; a total of forty thousand dollars.
Martin Zuniga
“We have a safe where they stored the money in there, so it was the weekend sales.”
Jacqueline Godwin
“Is it true that you guys at first thought that this was all a joke?”
Martin Zuniga
“Yes, because the way the first person came in and the look of the gun, it looked like plastic and so we thought it was just a joke. We still couldn’t believe it when they put us on the floor.”
Police are investigating to determine whether the crime is the result of an inside job.
Martin Zuniga
“They ran on the Mirage Road and they got into a vehicle later on down the road.”
But catching the suspects should be easy because the men, who were not wearing masks, were reportedly videoed by the gas station’s security cameras.
Martin Zuniga
“Yes, I hope so. I think it is a giveaway they have their work you know cut out for them. It’s easy, really easy so I think they should have them by the end of today.”
One of the robbers also stole three hundred dollars from the cash register. The men got away in a car described only as a light blue station wagon.
