Kareem Arnold shot on infamous Kraal Road
In more violence in the city, a shooting occurred on Friday night a short distance from the murder scene of Darrel Francis as we reported earlier. Kareem Abdul Arnold was sitting with some friends outside an apartment building at the corner of Caesar Ridge and Kraal roads and the gunman who is described as a minor, escaped on a bicycle, after shooting Arnold to the face. The building’s landlord came home a few minutes after the shooting occurred. Witnesses at the scene gave him details about the incident.

“I had just came in and I was going back and about fifteen minutes or so after, my wife called me and said that they shot someone in the yard. So, immediately I came back and everybody was gone. I saw blood right on the bridge and I saw some blood underneath the stairs noh. When I came, I saw the cell phone here. It was actually my son that came and told me the cell phone was down here—I picked that up. As far as what heard is the guy was actually sitting up on the verandah rail. This apartment, this is some place that we rent rooms and some fellow went to the back and apparently he passed everybody and they didn’t know what was happening because since it’s a business place, since it’s a place for rent, thought he was coming to hail someone in the back. And the person apparently went to the back with his pistol and came out back with it in his hand. So, he apparently passed with it probably hidden and then he came back and apparently they say that he shoot him directly in the face. And he fell and those guys took him. That is as far as I know because I was not in the neighbourhood.”

“And more or less what time did the police reach after the shooting incident?”
Voice of: Landlord
“Well, they never did reach until the next day, probably sometime around ten o’clock or so.”
Jose Sanchez
“That’s the second shooting that happened on Friday. Are you concerned about violence in the area?”
Voice of: Landlord
“Definitely, concern definitely.”
Jose Sanchez
“Is this a regular occurrence?”
Voice of: Landlord
“Around here it’s like a showdown every time especially on weekends. Sometime, you just don’t know weh number wahn play round this area. So it probably just become a way of life for people in this neighborhood.”
Arnold is fortunate to be alive and is in stable condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Family members say he is able to speak and should be able to return home in a few days.
