Fire leaves family of four homeless

Story PictureA fire Tuesday night in Port Loyola has left a family of four homeless. According to Operations Manager Michael Middleton, around eight twenty-five the National Fire Service received a call from the police informing them of a fire on Louise Bevans Street.

Michael Middleton, Operations Manager, Fire Department
“We immediately dispatched two trucks to the scene. On arrival we found the upper flat of this two-story wooden structure fully engulfed in flames. The fire department immediately got into action and within ten minutes we had this fire under control.”

“The occupant of the house is one Miss Adeline Harris, her daughter, her son, and her grandchild. We know that the fire started in the rear bedroom, but at this time we are unsure as to what started this fire.”

“They were at home at the time of the fire?”

Michael Middleton
“Yes, they were at home at the time of fire. Miss Harris stated that she heard a fire truck pass by, she looked out to see where the fire truck was going, at the same time she smell smoke when she realised it was her house that was on fire.”

The premises, which the family were renting, were insured but the building’s contents were not and they were unable to save any of their possessions. The lower flat of the house was unoccupied at the time of the blaze and sustained only water damage.
