Fire Victim needs help
An apartment in the Yarborough area that was occupied by thirty-five year old Claudia Blanco and her children was destroyed by fire on the morning of January sixth. Blanco lost everything and her family has since been temporarily taken in by a friend on Dean Street. But the single mother doesn’t want to overstay her welcome and says another friend is willing to assist her with a house; the only problem is that she has nowhere to put it. So she came to News Five to make a public appeal to anyone who can help her acquire a piece of land. Blanco’s three year old son, Akeem Morgan, was also injured in the fire and she says it’s because no one help her to rescue him from the burning apartment.

“In December I had a problem with a Belizean woman and she threatened to burn down my house but I don’t know if it was her or not. I ended up fighting with her and that’s when she said she would burn down my house, but I didn’t worry about it because I am also at home with my son. That day when it happened, I was sleeping and I woke up to my daughter calling out to me at around seven-thirty in the morning. Then my son said to me “mommy the house is on fire”. Someone had helped me and I had everything in my house, but I didn’t worry about the material things. I ran outside to get help and my daughter came out through a window. 
But my son was trapped in the fire, and nobody would help him because nobody wanted to get burnt. My neighbor’s daughter helped me to break a window and I got my son. I couldn’t leave him because I love him too much. He was already on the floor with his skin burnt. And after all this, the people asked how I got him out but none of them helped. Now I have someone who wants to help me with a house but I don’t have any land to put it on. I have three children and I feel bad because they want to help me, but they can’t.”
