P.S.U. has new president
The Public Service Union has elected a new President. She is Jacqueline Willoughby Sanchez. Willoughby was previously the first Vice President of the union and takes over from Dylan Reneau, who will now serve as Secretary General. Other members of the executive include Lizandro Quiroz as first V.P., Ofelia Gomez as second V.P., Audrey Bennett as Assistant to the Secretary General, and Maryann Sutherland and Carol Harrison as Councillors. The elections were held during the P.S.U.’s eighty-fifth annual general meeting in Corozal over the weekend. Guest speaker was D.F.C. Commission of Inquiry Co-Chair Merlene Bailey Martinez. According to a press release issued today, during the event the P.S.U. membership resolved to team up with the Belize National Teachers Union to negotiate with Government to secure compensation for public officers for their increments frozen from July 2005 to June 2006.
