Accident on Northern Highway kills two
A woman and young boy are dead following a traffic accident that occurred this morning near Trial Farm in the Orange Walk District. According to police reports, around eleven-fifteen, twenty-eight year old Silvana Vellos of San Andres Village in the Corozal District was heading on the Northern Highway towards Orange Walk Town in her Toyota pickup truck. Between miles fifty-six and fifty-seven Vellos collided into a Dodge Ram pickup truck that was heading in the opposite direction. Inside Vellos’s vehicle at the time were three Moreno children ages six to ten. Vellos and eight year old Jaime Moreno both suffered severe trauma to the face and body and died on the spot. Six year old Benjamin Moreno, who sustained severe injuries to both his legs, is in the K.H.M.H. in a critical condition. His older brother, ten year old Cresencio, remains in the Northern Regional Hospital in a serious condition. Investigations into the accident reveal that Vellos crossed into the lane of the Dodge pickup, causing the head on collision. Police, however, have detained the other driver, Eddie Usher, pending the outcome of their investigation.
