Caribbean choir to tour Belize in fundraising drive

Two weeks ago Belizeans were introduced to the Bahamas National Children’s Choir … and now local audiences will be treated to the vocal talents of Trinidad and Tobago’s Suite Chorale. Approximately thirty members of the group arrived in the country today for a series of fundraising performances for the Anglican Diocese. According to Choir Director Yvonne Pilgrim Suite, she wants to use voice to give something back to her country and her church.

Yvonne Pilgrim Suite, Director, Suite Chorale
“Our repertoire is quite broad, ranging from religious music, spiritual, inspirational, motivational. We do Broadway, we do folk, we love to do folk, little bits of calypso, all of that you will get and you will also be hearing some of the Belizean folk songs as interpreted by our choir.”

Bishop Phillip Wright, Anglican Diocese
“This group has elected to come and be with us and perform and help us raise some funds to help the church primarily with its outreach programmes. … Some of the outreach programmes have to do with our schools, our feeding programmes in the schools. We also have some scholarship funds and we help in other areas in terms of some of the social needs as well. All these things need some funding.”

“This church here is where I was baptised, confirmed, married and all—by husband is a Trinidadian but we got married here—this is the church where I was one of the organists, I thought right next door, I attended St. Hilda’s College.”

“We come down here very confident knowing that you will enjoy what we have to offer here.”

Bishop Phillip Wright
“I have seen a snippet of the group’s performance and I can assure you that you will enjoy it; I have no doubt about that.”

The Suite Chorale’s first performance in Belize will be at St. John’s Anglican Church this Sunday. The group will sing at churches across the country in addition to two concerts at the Bliss, scheduled for July twenty-first and twenty-second.
