Scotiabank awards 64 primary school scholarships
Today twenty primary school children were each awarded three hundred dollars to help pay for their school tuition and other supplies. The donation is the second of its kind under the auspices of the Scotiabank Education Fund. This year a total of sixty-five grants will be awarded to students countrywide.
Filomena Castillo, Bank Manager, Belize City Branch
“It is a big way in which we Scotiabankers and the corporate Scotiabank can give back to our community. We see it as an opportunity for us to really assist those that are really in need of funds when it comes to education purposes for the youths.”
Jacqueline Godwin
“Another special thing about this programme, I understand is that the funds are raised by the staff themselves.”
Filomena Castillo
“Some of it is yes. While the initial capital was from our head office, fundraising has been an essential part of keeping the fund running so that we are able to do this yearly.”
Godfrey Ramsey, Parent of Recipient
“I think it is very good at this time as everybody say things hard, so this education grant will take some burden off many of the parents who will be receiving this grant.”
In 2006, sixty-four primary school students received Scotiabank grants.
