They were critique by permanent judge, Jennifer Lovell.

Jennifer Lovell, Judge, Ultimate KTV
“You tended to go off key, but you have a great voice, you have a great vibrato, but you really need to—song selection, it’s really song selection and that is a tough song.”

“You need to enunciate. I couldn’t understand any of the words you were saying. No, so you have to really practice on pronouncing your words.”

William Neal
“What did you think of the comments by the judge?”

Juan Mendez, Auditioned for Ultimate KTV
“She was very positive about my performance and I think the comment she made was true, I took no offence.”

Mary Rhaburn, Producer, Ultimate KTV
“Jenny has been very good in talking to each of the auditioners as they came to perform. She talks to them about their voice quality, what she thinks were their good points and what she thought was their downfall, how to pick good songs that suit their voice. She was honest and very nice to them.”

According to Lovell and producer Mary Rhaburn, the auditions brought out some major talent, which when added to the returning finalists will make for an exciting couple of months.

Jennifer Lovell
“I have seen some singers here today, talented people. I don’t know where have they been hiding? Excellent, excellent stuff.”

Kendra Griffith
“Think they are going to give our champions a run for their money?”

Jennifer Lovell
“I think they are going to give the champions a real run for their money, I’m telling you. I saw some people here today who can stand toe to toe with a lot of the champions.”

Mary Rhaburn
“Everybody can’t wait. I have called them to give them tentative dates as to when they will be performing and to my surprise a lot of them already have their songs. They have already picked their songs that they are going to be performing, so everybody is looking forward to it, practicing, getting ready I guess to put on the ultimate performance that they have ever put on for Karaoke TV.”

Those past champions will get to check out their competition for the first time on tonight’s and next week’s broadcast of Ultimate KTV, which will be pre-taped shows highlighting the auditions. But come July twenty-fourth the competition begins in earnest.

Mary Rhaburn
“We’re going to bring back about twenty of the people that auditioned on the past two Saturdays and after that the competition gets rolling and it promises to be totally exciting, entertaining and everything ultimate you could have asked for from karaoke.”

And now that the auditions are over, the KTV wannabes are hoping they’ll get a chance to compete for the ten thousand dollar grand prize.

Kendra Griffith
“You did as well as you had hope?”

Joyce Flores, Auditioned for Ultimate KTV
“Not really, I missed a number of the words, but I think I’m positive, maybe I’ll get in.”

Kendra Griffith
“So you think you’re gonna make it this time?”

Victoria Armstrong
“Yes man, I know.”

Audrey Augustine, Auditioned for Ultimate KTV
“I’m nervous about it, but I’m ready for it.”

Jazel Pascascio, Auditioned for Ultimate KTV
“I know I could have done better, but I did good, very, very good.”

To find out which of these hopefuls were good enough to make the cut, tune in to Ultimate KTV Tuesday nights at nine, right here on Channel 5. Kendra Griffith reporting for News Five.

Just to make sure there’s no confusion, the K.T.V. shows airing tonight and next Tuesday have been pre-recorded. The live shows begin at the Bliss on Tuesday, July twenty-fourth, at which time three judges will narrow the field of those who auditioned down to thirteen. On the eight shows to follow, those thirteen new contestants will be joined by our nineteen returning finalists, with four singers competing each week. That will produce eight semi-finalists, who will compete over the next two weeks to generate four finalists who will vie for the Ultimate K.T.V. championship and its ten thousand dollar cash prize. Once the original thirty-two contestants have been selected, the winners at each stage will be decided not by the judges, but by viewers using the text message feature on their cellular phones.
