Small delegation heads for Pan Am Games

Story PictureThe delegation is pitifully small, an acknowledgement of both our financial limitations and lack of national commitment when it comes to sports … but while the seven athletes heading to the Pan American Games in Brazil will be short on support, they’ll be long on heart. In case you don’t see them on E.S.P.N. our seven person team consists of Alfonso Martinez, who will be competing in the flyweight division of Taekwondo along with six Belizeans running track and field. They are Tricia Flores in the hundred meters and long jump; Kaina Martinez, two hundred metres; Kay-De Vaughn, high jump; Joel Wade, long jump; Jonathan Williams, hundred metres and four hundred metre hurdles; and Jason Jones in the hundred metres. Martinez, who will be flag bearer in the opening ceremonies, left Belize on Sunday, while the others leave on July eighteenth. We will do our best to follow their exploits in Rio de Janeiro.
