City man found guilty of manslaughter
The case against a Belize City man accused of homicide has ended with a conviction. Last February, Kermit Meighan was charged with the stabbing murder of twenty-five year old Lionel “Tubbs” Gabb. On the night in question, an argument between the two men on Antelope Street ended with Gabb being stabbed with a five inch long butcher knife. During trial, the accused spoke in his own defence and admitted to a disagreement but alleged that the victim had “run up into the knife.” The jury didn’t buy Meighan’s story and this afternoon returned a guilty verdict, albeit on the lesser charge of manslaughter. Justice Adolph Lucas sentence Meighan on July twenty-fourth. Anthony Sylvester was Meighan’s attorney while Douglas Carr prosecuted the case.
