Suspect arrested for Belize City child rape

Story PictureTwo weeks ago, an eleven year old girl’s disturbing report that she had been abducted and raped made a lot of parents nervous. Tonight police believe they’ve cracked the case, but the events are different from the victim’s initial account. According to authorities, twenty-five year old Leonard Arnold Junior is the man who walked up to the child on Youth for the Future Drive and then accompanied her to another area where they engaged in sex. Arnold, a resident of Partridge Street Extension, has since been charged with Rape and Carnal Knowledge. The child had originally told investigators that between four and five on the evening of June twenty-fifth, she was alone and on an errand for her grandmother when a small red car pulled up to her. The girl then alleged that the two men inside forced her into the vehicle and took her to the Bird’s Isle where one of them raped her. Police tell News Five their investigations have revealed that there was no car and no second suspect involved in the incident. In fact, police believe Arnold and the victim were at the very least, acquaintances.
