Policeman wins $20,000 shopping spree…

Story PictureImagine receiving a prize worth twenty thousand dollars on your birthday. Well that is exactly what happened to Michael Casey who turned forty-six years old today. Casey, a police inspector, is the proud winner of C.T.C.’s twenty thousand dollar shopping Spree at any of the Mirab Stores. This afternoon News Five caught up with him at the Furniture Gallery on the Western Highway.

“I guess it is just luck. I’m not a smoker, but whenever I see the packs around I would pick them up and hold them.”

“How you found out you had won?”

Michael Casey
“By listening to the numbers drawn and checking what I had and then I found that one of the numbers was there and I took it into the office immediately.”

Charles Woods Jr., G.M., Caribbean Tobacco Company
“Of course the nature of the promotion was to mitigate the effects of contraband and that has really helped us to some degree but not as much as we would like. Contraband is a much larger problem than the value of the promotions. Having said that though, it does help and it does increase sales, so much so that it warrants and justifies continuing the promotions.”

“It has been one of the longest promotions we’ve ever had. The others, under the same design where we had raffles such as this one, didn’t take as long. We really don’t know the answer for that. What we do know is that some people have told us that they had thrown out their packs not realising it had a number in it. We also know that a lot of tourists, particularly cruise ship tourists, purchase our products and clearly they would not have known about it. We really don’t know why it took so long, but it did.”

Casey’s winning number is B309871. Meanwhile, C.T.C.’s current promotion, running through December, is called the Lucky Seven’s Instant Winner Sweepstakes. According to general manager Charles Woods Jr., thousands of coupons will be placed in randomly selected packs of cigarettes, each one redeemable for cash, gifts, or shopping sprees.
