Debit card customers reap rewards in bank raffle

Just swipe it! That’s what you’re supposed to do with your debit card. Of course it helps to have some cash in your account. And speaking of cash, those who have been swiping over the last several months received a chance to win some big money in a promotion sponsored by the Belize Bank.

And that was the case today for three lucky Belizeans in the second drawing of the Belize Bank’s Visa debit card raffle.

“The objective of the raffle is to encourage our cardholders to use the card to make purchases when they go to the stores or the gas station instead of having to carry cash or having to write a cheque.”

To qualify for the draw the cardholders must have used their card. The winner’s names were randomly selected by computer.

“What we will do is ask three of our customers in the baking hall right now to come up and just press the key and see who the lucky winners are.”

It did not take long before the second and first consolation prize winner’s names to appear on the screen. Rafael Rivero and Claudia Grant each won a thousand dollars. But who would take home not one, but five thousand dollars?

We are not sure when the third draw will take place, but it is hoped the raffle will be drawn close to Christmas time.
