Chief of Staff lobs a grenade for you
Six grenades were detonated recently. Before you get alarmed, it was an operation designed by the Belize Defense Force to destroy confiscated artillery that was found on the streets. The specifics of the operation aren’t known as the media was not invited to witness or interview the participants. The footage, provided courtesy of the Government Press Office, shows massive craters in the earth after the explosions. Lieutenant Colonel James Requeña, B.D.F. Acting Chief of Staff and resident demolition expert took charge of the destruction.

“What we have here this morning is twelve forty- millimeter AG point detonating rounds and six hand grenades that were recovered in different incidents in Belize City. The reason why we are destroying it, they are no longer of any interest to the court and we have gotten permission from the Belize Police Department to go ahead and destroy it rather than keep it in our arsenal. This grenade was found in St. Martin’s De Porres area. This one was found at Karl Heusner during the carnival, this was thrown in front of Karl Heusner. These were retrieved by the Police Department by Mr. Broaster and these two were recovered from police training school in Belmopan. These will be destroyed by adding explosive charge C-4 to it. It will be placed in a hole in the ground and we place the charge on top of it. Using electric means, we will set off the detonation. At the end we will go and inspect it to see that all have been destroyed.”
