A.C.C. registration funds jacked again!

Story PictureIt was around this same time last year when the staff of Anglican Cathedral College was held up as they collected registration fees in the school’s office. In that incident over twelve thousand dollars was stolen by the two robbers who also destroyed some property in the process. Following the incident the school staff and students held fund raising drives to recover from the financial loss and strengthened security.

Details are sketchy as to what happened a year and five days later, but sometime around two on Tuesday afternoon a thief once again made off with the school’s registration fees. According to police reports, the funds, totalling seven thousand and eighty-eight dollars in cash and two thousand three hundred and eighty-nine dollars in cheques, were placed in a manila envelop in a plastic bag and given to a caretaker to deposit at the Belize Bank. The caretaker told police that as he left the school compound on his bicycle he was held up at gunpoint by a dark complexioned man on Regent Street. Belize City police say they have detained two persons including an employee of the school. The school’s management declined to comment on the incident, only telling News Five that they will be meeting sometime next week to discuss what happened and why security appeared to have been lax in the transportation of the funds.

Meanwhile the police continue to advise all institutions that are currently collecting fees to exercise extreme caution and to contact the police whenever they feel the need for assistance.
