Police believe city man died of epileptic seizure

Story PictureA dead body has been found on the outskirts of Belize City, but it appears that foul play was not involved.

Jacqueline Godwin, Reporting
Five days after thirty-nine year old Godwin Slusher went missing from his Belize City home around eleven this morning, a police mobile patrol came upon his remains under this abandoned structure at Belizean Beach by mile four on the western highway. Slusher who was clad only in a black pants was found lying face down on the ground

G. Michael Reid, Police Press Officer
“There are signs of a few scrapes and bruises on his body but not anything that would seem that he was assaulted in any way. Police are not suspecting foul play.”

So what could have happened to this father of three teenaged children? Colonel Ferguson says after his brother did not return home they became very concerned for his safety because for the past two years he has been increasingly suffering from epileptic seizures. Ferguson says when Godwin left the family’s residence he feared that it was the last time that they would see him alive.

Colone Ferguson, Brother of the Deceased
“According to his son, right… well he got some clothes and thing, right. He tell his son, like, just mek his ma tek weh she want and mek him tek the rest of clothes because he wah dead, just like that.”

“Maybe he neva want it happen home, round his kids so I seh he must come all the way up yah fi it right.”

Police believe that Slusher may have had a seizure and died.

Ferguson says his brother’s seizures began after he underwent surgery two years ago. Although Slusher did receive regular medical care, he had a habit of discharging himself from the hospital.
