Three arrested for murder of Harry Duesbury

Story PictureCorozal police have arrested and charged the three young men they say killed eighty-one year old Harry Duesbury at his residence in San Andres Village in the Corozal District. The accused, who all live in the community, have been identified as twenty-six year old Noel Guy and seventeen year old Rosendo Guy, believe to be related, and a fifteen year old minor. They have been charged with Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Murder.

Police say their investigations have led them to believe that Duesbury was asleep when he was stabbed fifteen times to the chest and hit on the temple with a baseball bat. There were no signs of forced entry into the upstairs bedroom. According to the police, they do not believe the Guys were familiar with the Duesbury family, but they have been able to ascertain that the minor was one of the youths Duesbury assisted with computer lessons. The Duesbury family says their house was open to help neighbourhood youths stay out of trouble.

Authorities, who described the crime as a senseless and vicious attack, told News Five that the motive for the murder was robbery and they believe the killing had been planned. Aggressive investigations have led police to recovery most of the stolen items that include a double barrel sixteen gauge shotgun and ammunition, a wooden baseball bat, and a black briefcase containing personal documents. Additional searches in the community resulted in the discovery of a homemade double barrel sawed off twelve gauge shotgun and two cartridges. Police say they are yet to recover the knife used to kill Duesbury as well as the victim’s cash believed to have been inside the briefcase. Duesbury was murdered sometime between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. His body was discovered by his wife.
