Suspect detained for arson attempt
A Belize City man is in police custody for attempting to burn down a house. The incident occurred on Freedom Street in Port Loyola around ten Sunday night. According to thirty-five year old Roy Latchman, he was in his bedroom when he heard a noise at his front door. When he got up to investigate, Latchman says he saw a man he knew pouring a liquid on his veranda and attempting to ignite it with a lighter. He shouted at the culprit, who upon realising he was busted, ran down the stairs and escaped. Police recovered a plastic bottle containing kerosene and a pair of slippers from the scene. The man, identified only as a twenty year old residing on Central American Boulevard, has been detained pending further investigations.
