Y.W.C.A. offers summer activities, seeks volunteers
It is said that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop, but that shouldn’t be a problem for parents and children during the school break as there is no shortage of individuals and organisations hosting organised activities during the summer. This year the Y.W.C.A. will be conducting seventeen different programmes for people of all ages. The Y’s Helen Rosales today told News Five what is being offered and also appealed for volunteers.
Helen Rosales, Principal, Help Programme, YWCA
“Cooking, cosmetology, cake and pastry making, cake decorating, sign language, a new one, which is housekeeping, which I could elaborate on a little bit later on, learning to swim for toddlers, children, and adults, sports in basketball and volleyball karate, we have our day care, preschool, Math and English, arts and craft and reading.”
“We have a cadre of volunteers who have a on yearly basis assisted the Y in its endeavour to make the summer camp a very successful and low cost one and we are also appealing to those who might not have nothing much to do for the summer to come and assist us and I am sure they will get a very rewarding experience.”

“Any skill in particular you are looking for in a volunteer?”
Helen Rosales
“We are looking specifically for people to assist in the swimming and we are also looking for people to assist in the teaching of English and Math and reading.”

“What can someone do if they want to volunteer?”
Helen Rosales
“All you have to do is come into the office, fill out a volunteer form. We look at it, we call you back. We have an orientation for volunteers and the programme begins.”
The Y’s summer programme begins on July second. For more information on the schedule and fees, please call 203-4971 or visit their website at www.ywca.org.bz.
