2 men injured in shooting in St. Matthews Village

And while the spate of crime claimed the lives of three different men, two are lucky to be alive following a shooting incident in St. Matthew’s Village. Twenty five year old Royston Henry and thirty two year old Roylee Young were walking on Saturday night when a man in the bushes fired a shotgun hitting both men in the lower legs. Henry says that he doesn’t believe the gunman wanted them dead because he had the opportunity to kill them but only shot them because of a small misunderstanding.

“Well, dah night deh suh me and my cousin we just mi di come the walk pahn the road but somebody mi done deh inna bush di dodge we already because when we pass dah like somebody mi done deh deh stoop down and just shoot two time. Deh shoot two time and I si my cousin drop and I jump inna bush but when I jump inna bush I neva run because I stay right deh suh and I hear plain when the next person deh run ova deh inna the bush ova the next side ah the road.”

“To which part of the body were you and your cousin shot?”

“Two ah we get it inna fi we foot. I get it inna my foot and I just get graze pahn my hip right yah suh; I just get it four time but he get it nine time inna wah foot and four time inna wah next foot suh fi he foot bruk but my one dah lone meat it pass through suh I still alright, yeah.”

“Okay, so he remains hospitalized at this time?”

“Yeah he deh dah Belize hospital but I come out same night but still have to go fi dressing and suh and I still have one ah di lead deh inna my foot, yeah.”

“So you believe the target was your cousin?”
Royston Henry
“No, dah nuh that I think dah wah lee misunderstanding weh mi gone on down deh too mien, wah lee hard talking and then yuh got certain people weh say like yeah, deh could do this and do that and I know that’s why they shoot we inna fi we foot because deh nuh want we go down deh again because if if dah somebody weh mi really wah kill yuh, deh mi wah kill yuh yuh understanad. Deh just shoot two ah wi inna fi we foot so deh think we mi wah cyaa walk so we can’t go down deh right now suh if dah mi somebody weh mi wah kill yuh, deh mi wah kill yuh, yuh understand.”
Young remains hospitalized at the K.H.M.H. So far no one has been detained.
