Summer programme to focus on math, reading
As the school year winds down this month, the summer programmes are starting up. One such initiative will take place at the Leo Bradley and Turton libraries in Belize City next month. According to organiser Peter Lacey, students are invited to sign up for preparation classes in reading and mathematics.

“Students have difficulties in these areas and its shows on their exams and their performances in external exams like P.S.E., BJAT and their internal exams. There is a real drop off in our education system.”
Janelle Chanona
“You are such a young person though. Why are you getting so involved in your peers education?”
Peter Lacey
“I’ve been doing this since I was thirteen years and I took it on myself since I was nineteen. This is my fourth year doing the summer program and actually this is my first year starting a foundation, “Growing the Future” foundation. This is to assist underprivileged students, not only those that are academically challenged, but students that can’t afford to receive extra help after they leave school.”
The course is set to run between July second and August tenth. Registration for the classes begin on June twenty-eighth. For more information please contact Peter Lacey at 622-9317, 203-4105 or 620-6639. The classes are ten dollars a week or sixty dollars for the entire six week programme.
