Conflict in Stann Creek over football association chairperson
Earlier in the newscast, we told you about a commission of inquiry that will look into the financial affairs of the F.F.B. under Bertie Chimilio. And in other football news, there is tension brewing in the Culture Capital tonight over the chairmanship of the Stann Creek Football Association. According to Acting Chairperson Denise Flores an extraordinary congress was recently held during which the executive of the association, as well as ten of eleven teams, voted on the expulsion of Kevin Flores as presiding officer. Nonetheless, the F.F.B. has fully endorsed Flores’ chairmanship citing that the association did not adhere to the actions that were necessary to effectively oust him.
Ruperto Vicente, President, F.F.B.
“The removal of Kevin Flores was very illegal. Due process was not followed and for a chairperson to be removed he has got to be sent a letter asking him to call an extraordinary congress of his district, you know. When he receives that letter he has up to three months to call that congress. Kevin Flores was never given that opportunity; instead, a letter was sent from the federation telling Kevin Flores that he is no longer the chairperson of the Stann Creek. That is illegal. He should have been given the opportunity to [call the extraordinary congress] and so now my administration, this new federation executive is acknowledging and recognizing Kevin Flores as the duly elected chairperson for the Stann Creek Football Association.”
