Vegetable farmer with 2.5 lbs of herby marijuana
It’s usually one or the other, but when a vegetable farmer from the Corozalito Village appeared in Magistrates’ Court, he was slapped with a fine and jail time. At around eleven-thirty on Wednesday night, thirty-five year old Ellis Rudon was busted by police on Central American Boulevard with two and a quarter pounds of marijuana. He wasted no time in court this morning and pleaded guilty to Drug Trafficking when he was brought before Magistrate Sharon Fraser. Rudon was sentenced to three years behind bars and ordered to pay a ten thousand dollar fine plus five dollars cost of court. If he cannot pay the fine by October thirty-first, an additional three years will be added to Rudon’s sentence. The farmer was heading down Central American Boulevard in the direction of Belize Port Authority with a large bag in his hand when he was intercepted by police and searched. The cops found the suspected marijuana in the bag and Rudon was detained and taken to the Queen Street Police Station.
