Three escaped cons remain at large
Tonight prison officials are investigating the brazen escape of three inmates from the young offenders section over the weekend. According to Chief Executive Officer Marlon Skeen, around two-thirty on Sunday morning, guard Charles Galvez reported that sixteen year old Francisco Martinez and his seventeen year old brother Sergio of San Pedro, and sixteen year old Miguel Perez of Carmelita Village in Orange Walk, had broken out of the facility. Investigations into the incident so far have revealed that the prisoners cut through a small space in the chain link and bars between the ceiling and the roof and then jumped outside where a getaway vehicle was waiting. Up to news time tonight, the teenagers had yet to be apprehended. And while the search continues, prison officials are now focussing their attention on that same guard, Charles Galvez, as it is believed that the inmates could not have escaped without inside assistance. Reports to News Five suggest that the escapees took the better part of an hour to noisily gain their freedom, but Galvez appears to have been the only man in the building not to hear the obvious sounds and raise the alarm. There is also the matter of how the men got the tools that were used to hack their way through the metal bars and mesh. Francisco Martinez was on remand for a drug trafficking charge, while Sergio was serving a sentence for a series of robberies and petty crimes. The third escapee, Miguel Perez was on remand, accused of theft. If you have seen any of these men please contact 601-3159, 610-5579, or the nearest police station.
