A blood stain on concrete marks the spot where police discovered the body of thirty-three year old San Pedro resident Sandy Alamilla. Lead Investigator in the case, Sgt. Dennis Myles, said officers got the call at around seven-thirty Sunday morning.
Sgt. Dennis Myles, San Pedro C.I.B.
“We came over and when we came over we saw the lifeless body of Sandy Anthony Alamilla lying right there on the seawall, apparently dead suffering from a stab wound to his throat and a cut wound over the left side of the head.”
But while the victim was found in the boatyard, police do not believe that’s where Alamilla was killed. Authorities believe the crime was committed in the wee hours of Sunday morning on another island across from Ambergris Caye.
Sgt. Dennis Myles
“That island is under construction right now; it’s only construction workers living over there. It’s not a residential area at this time. It’s just construction taking place on that side of the island.”
“Well Sandy is a construction worker and he was taken over to that construction site to do construction work and we believe that he was killed over there and they just brought him and dumped him over on this side of the island.”
“After we found him on the ramp over here, I saw a trail of blood like if though they came in a boat at the end of the dock over there and we saw drips of blood that came all the way over here and where the body was lying, so we believe that the boat was over there because we also have witnesses who saw when they left with him from over that side on that boat.”
Police have detained one person for questioning but have not been able to locate the boat used for transporting Alamilla or a security guard who was on the island that night.
Sgt. Dennis Myles
“There are workers over there who heard noise and when they came out they saw this boat with these security officers leaving that island in this direction, over on this side of the island.”

“You think that it was more than one person who actually committed the murder?”
Sgt. Dennis Myles
“We believe that it was more than one person.”
Originally from Ranchito Village, Alamilla, also known as “Plantin” has lived on San Pedro for the past four years and was not a known as a troublemaker.
Sgt. Dennis Myles
“Mr. Alamilla is not a person who would be in the hands of the police on a regular basis. Since my time here in San Pedro this is the first time I’ve heard about Sandy Alamilla, so he’s not a troublesome type of person.”
“The motive apparently is, as far as what we gather, that he wanted to enter a house over there and that was when the security guard was alerted and that was when the security guard came out and attacked him.”
A post-mortem was scheduled to be conducted on Alamilla this afternoon. Kendra Griffith reporting for News Five.
Alamilla’s death is the second murder on Ambergris Caye since January.
