2 men tried to set Mike’s Club ablaze
On Monday night, there was an arson attempt at Mike’s Club on Regent Street West. The bartender, fifty-four year old Glenford Diamond was working at around ten o’clock and went outside to feed his cat when he saw two men; one going up the stairs with a gallon and the other with a soft drink bottle. The men threw gas on the building and then set it on fire. They then ordered Diamond to go back inside and one of them motioned toward his pants as if to draw a weapon. Diamond complied out of fear and immediately called the police. Luckily, the fire was quickly contained and the wooden building was saved. One wall was significantly damaged while other areas were scorched, but today Mike’s was opened for business as usual. There’s no known motive for the fire, but the club was where twenty year old Orlando Reyes collapsed and died after being shot at the corner of Orange and West Streets on Friday.
