Convicted murderer sentenced to life
A convicted murderer has been sentenced to spend the rest of his life behind bars. On May thirtieth, a jury found twenty-four year old Wayne Martinez guilty of the stabbing death of forty-five year old Reno Castillo. His brother, twenty-seven year old Morris, was also accused of the murder but was acquitted of the crime. This morning the Martinez family filled the courtroom of Justice Adolph Lucas as the judge heard pleas for leniency from two of his friends and his attorney, Michael Peyrefitte. Martinez himself also begged for mercy telling the court that he was very sorry for the unfortunate incident that caused the loss of a life. In the end, Justice Lucas declined to order the death penalty and instead imposed a life sentence against Martinez. Castillo was stabbed to death by two men on bicycles near Newtown Barracks after he resisted their attempts to take his hat and sunglasses. Following the stabbing, the pair were surrounded and detained by other people in the area until authorities arrived. The Martinez brothers were subsequently arrested and charged by authorities. It is believed that Martinez will appeal the life sentence.
