Cop accused of scamming 19,000 gallons of fuel
We are always hearing stories of how the police can’t respond to emergency calls because there’s no fuel for their vehicles. Now we know why. Police constable Leroy Kerr, the man given the responsibility to authorise fuel orders for the department, is being accused tonight of operating a monumental scam that defrauded government of over one hundred and seventy-five thousand dollars in fuel purchases.
Authorities would not comment on reports that the twenty-three year old Kerr colluded with attendants at One Stop Gas Station to give their accomplices fuel after the drivers produced orders signed by Kerr during the period November twenty-fourth 2006 to April twenty-third 2007. Authorities believe that Kerr was paid for his generosity but at this time they do not know exactly how much cash he may have received.
In court today it was alleged that a total of eighteen thousand, nine hundred and sixty-five gallons of fuel were stolen and Kerr has been charged with the crime of Theft. Bail was set at fifteen thousand dollars and by late afternoon had still not been posted by the accused. His next court date is August thirtieth. Authorities also report that the management of One Stop, where the misappropriation allegedly occurred, has been fully cooperating with the investigation. Police believe that at least three gas attendants are involved and that more arrests are likely.
