Woman wounded in drive-by was not intended victim
Belize City police have detained one man in connection with a shooting incident that has left a thirty-seven year old woman hospitalised. According to police, around eight on Tuesday night Gaye McKenzie was standing outside her family’s residence at the corner of Ebony and Sittee Streets talking with another woman when she was shot in the abdomen. The woman was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where she remains in a stable condition. McKenzie declined an interview, but authorities say she has reported to them that the shot was fired from a moving vehicle. It is not believed that McKenzie was the intended target and was in fact an innocent victim.
