Stabbed in jail, but freed of firearm offences

Meanwhile, another man who was remanded for a firearm offence got good news in court today. Twenty-one year old Woodrow Reyes of Partridge Street was remanded for two counts of Kept Firearm without a Gun License, one count of kept ammunition without a gun license and two counts of handling stolen Goods. While in prison, he was also the victim of a stabbing incident which occurred last week. But this morning, he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith and learned that all five criminal charges were being withdrawn. No explanation was given as to why the charges were being dropped. But according to Reyes, at the time of the search at a street on Peter Seco Street where police found illegal weapons and ammunition, he was only in the yard fixing a machine. Reyes was detained along with six others on April eighteenth after a police search yielded a stolen Winchester shotgun which belonged to Armead Logan Thurton; a Lawn mower which belonged to Arthur Saldivar; a double barrel shotgun; a single barrel shotgun; and two live cartridges. The other accused persons are Yvette Lynch, her common-law husband Allison Major, Leroy Gomez, Kent Lynch, Errol Lynch and Virginie Alvarez. Yvette has since been granted bail by the Supreme Court, while the others remain on remand at the Belize Central Prison.
