No cabinet reshuffle…yet
In political news from Belmopan, this evening we have confirmed that the Prime Minister has not reshuffled his Cabinet following the firing of Ministers Cordel Hyde and Mark Espat last Tuesday. We understand that both men were scheduled to meet with the P.M. today, but we were unable to confirm whether that conference took place or its outcome. The Prime Minister is scheduled to leave the country later this week for Venezuela and sources say it is unlikely any announcement regarding a reshuffle will be made before next Monday. In the meantime, the Prime Minister has assumed the Ministries of Defence and National Development until new appointments are made. According to a government press release issued after their dismissal, Espat and Hyde were fired from the Cabinet because “They could not give a clear indication that they intend[ed] to support the Government motion” on the Universal Health Services debt.
