No decision yet in contempt charge against B.T.L.
Today was a busy day for Justice John Muria as he presided over two separate but related cases in the legal clash between union leader Christine Perriott and Belize Telecommunications Limited. At nine this morning, Muria was scheduled to hear B.T.L.’s submission for leave to appeal his decision to reinstate Perriott as an employee pending the conclusion of the substantive case. But in an attempt to keep things organised, Muria adjourned the matter and indicated that proper procedure would be to first address a motion by Perriott that Dean Boyce is in contempt because she has been denied access to any B.T.L. compound despite the court order. That matter started at two this afternoon and continued until five today with additional submissions set to resume next Thursday. Despite the delay, Perriott was upbeat as she and her attorney celebrated what they referred to as “small victories”. According to Perriott, one of those triumphs actually had nothing to do with her or B.T.L.

“They were talking about Lois, that she has a political agenda—this is my interpretation, that she has a political agenda and she’s bias and like she’s influencing me to make this decision to single out Dean Boyce. But Lois is not telling me what to do; I hire Lois to do my work. I mean, that’s what you do with lawyers, you hire them and you tell them what you want. She only acts on what I am telling her and then she gives us legal advice. At no did Lois come and say, well you need to do that and you need to do this and you need to do that and if you don’t do this, this is what. At no time she did that. I think she did very well, I am proud of her, she did very well. The way how she put it across, I had that same belief when I saw first the affidavit I was asking why are these in here? This has nothing to do with me. And for me, in my opinion she’s fighting my case, so why are they bringing things up about Lois in my case? The case is about me and B.T.L.; not me, Lois and B.T.L.”
B.T.L is being represented in the matter by Andrew Marshalleck.
