Top bodybuilders chosen in musclemania
Good Evening I’m James Adderly and here’s your weekly issue of Sports Monday. The 2007 RFG Insurance Cup Playoffs blasted off this weekend with all eight teams seeing action.
Here in Belize City the M.C.C. Grounds hosted the clash between F.C. Belize and San Pedro’s Costa Del Sol Nairi’s in a ballgame that brought with it high expectations from both ball clubs.
Folks were only seven minutes in when Deon McCauly smashes this spotlight with the wall, the ball bounces to Ian Geynair and his right foot in heavy traffic gives F.C. Belize the early 1-zip lead.
In response Luis Uribio attacks off the left side and centers dangerously only to see good F.C. defense thwart his good works.
Hey guys we know this is the post season alright but is all this really necessary? Mercifully, everybody should be alright.
At the other end F.C. Belize should have done better on this center from Dion Flowers but such is life and sports.
Of this set piece, however, Hilberto Caliz in the San Pedro goal is tested by this header from Deon McCauly but this time he passes the test – at the half we have a 1-nil F.C. Belize lead.
In second half, Dion Flowers tries to double the lead with this potent left foot effort but its right at Caliz.
A couple seconds later Flowers gets this open look at goal and opts for force instead of direction as he squanders the opportunity.
The end for San Pedro comes at the eighty-fourth minute of the this ballgame when Dion Flowers centers to John Smith whose left foot beats the keeper as F.C. Belize, who has remained undefeated through ten regular season outing and today’s playoff opener, goes onto post the 2-zip big win.
In other playoff action Tex Mar Boys doubled Santel’s 2 to 1, Revolutionary Conquerors and Hankook Verdes battled to a scoreless stalemate while Wagiya bombed Suga Boys Juventus 6 to 2.
Meanwhile folks this home and away series continues this weekend that’s coming. Santel’s will host Tex Mar Boys on Saturday, needing to win by two goals to advance; F.C. Belize heads to San Pedro on Saturday with the home team needing to win by three goals also to advance.
On Sunday, Revolutionary Conquerors head West to Hankook Verdes as both teams remain stalemated and Suga Boys Juventus will need at least a five goal big win to take out Wagiya at the Carl Ramos Stadium this Sunday.
In softball news, this two-run homer by Milton Flores pushes B.E.L. to a decisive 3-zip defeat of Advance Strikes Friday night at the Rogers Stadium in the Belize City male softball competition as Garth Godoy gets this win.
On Sunday’s ticket B.T.L. walloped Sigertronics 9 to 1 while in the male nightcap Dutch Boy Dantos edged B.E.L. Rookies 4-3.
In the basketball scene, Semi-pro action stayed at Orange Walk on Friday saw Orange Walk Eagles shock the San Pedro Tigersharks 85 to 66 in regulation.
Clenching in on the Bodybuilding scene, the Belize Bodybuilding Federation staged musclemania inside the Princess Hotel yesterday afternoon and what a war the senior category produced. However it was Deon Sanders who got the nod from the judges. Michael Buckley, who keeps on improving every time out, stepped up to second while Ernest Broaster in his second year took third place.
In the Masters class Rene Gordon comfortably walked away with top honors after a very impressive routine While Joseph McClauren has to settle for second in their category this time around.
At the junior level Victor Martinez was simply unchallenged and we say congratulations.
Of course folks it wouldn’t be musclemania without this battle for the best female body figure and I must confess it’s pretty hard to judge between these two.
Watch Kayla Myvett’s reaction when the announcer informs her that she’s the runner-up. Hey girl better luck next time.
Naturally we say congratulations to Gina Lovell who walked away with top honors and we say good show.
In closing we remind cycling fans that the annual Female Cross Country Cycle Classis comes up this Sunday so stay tuned.
Hey folks, that’s our show for today. We invite you back same time, same place, next week. Jah over all, I’m James Adderley
