Driver dies when he loses control of cement truck

Story PictureWell known Belizean cyclist, twenty-seven year old Leroy Trapp, better known as “Lyrics”, is dead following a traffic accident. The crash occurred on the Western Highway, just fifty yards away from where well-known businessman David Courtenay also lost his life on Friday morning. According to police reports, Trapp was driving a loaded cement truck towards Belmopan when upon reaching between miles twenty and twenty-one he lost control. The vehicle overturned causing severe head injuries to Trapp who is believed to have died on impact.

Luckily his sideman, twenty-two year old Andy Williams, escaped with only minor injuries. Police say they are investigating to determine what caused Trapp to lose control of the heavy vehicle. Reports suggest that Trapp was travelling at a high rate of speed and as he approached the curve, the vehicle started to swerve and may have flipped as many as four times before coming to a rest. At the time of his death, Trapp had been working for Maheia’s Construction for only three weeks.
