Kids to rebuild computers in summer programme
In his quest to strengthen the Belizean education system, this month Dr. Arlie Petters, of the Petters Research Institute, continues to help students prepare to sit this year’s Primary School Examination with specially prepared textbooks and courses on study skills. But according to Petters, this summer he’s taking things a step further by hosting a summer programme designed to give young people a hands-on grasp of technology. This morning organizers told News Five course participants will learn all about computers from the inside, out.

“They will learn about the inside of a computer, a bit about the software and then they are going to be assembling them from scratch.”

“And all of this will be taking place at the Price barracks?”

“Yes, it will be happening in Price Barracks and we are targeting the B.D.F. Air Cadet Programme students for half of the students participating in the programme. The air cadet programme is a programme that introduces kids twelve to nineteen into flying and flying related subjects. The second thing we are collaborating on this summer is the math and science intensive three week programme that we ran last year; that is to help those cadets that will try and apply for the American academies to better their grades and score higher on the tests and Dr. Petters will be rolling up his sleeves again, this year, and teaching the students math and science.”

“This is in fact a real pleasure for me personally because technology as we know is one of the key areas of growth for a young nation especially one like ours and being able to join with a significant institution like the Belize Defence Force I believe sends the right signal to our young people.”
