Mes acquitted of charges from traffic accident
Toledo West representative Marcial Mes has been cleared of all charges with respect to the knockdown and injury of two pedestrians earlier this year. He had been charged with driving without due care and attention, two counts of negligent grievous harm and failure to provide a blood specimen for testing. Magistrate Patrick Rosado ruled that the evidence presented was not sufficient for conviction on the first two charges and that procedural errors by the arresting officer invalidated the third. On the evening of January twenty-eighth Mes was driving through Forest Home Village when he ran into pedestrians two year old Denver Gomez and fifteen year old Samantha Romero, both of whom sustained serious injuries. Witnesses, including police, said at the time Mes appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Following the charges, Mes was suspended from his duties as a Minister of State. It is not clear whether or when he will be reinstated to that post.
