Belmopan high school gets help from G.O.B., Vatican

During a brief handing over ceremony in Belmopan today, the Ministry of Education made a financial contribution that should bring school officials closer to their dream of a new building. This morning, Minister of Education Francis Fonseca handed over a cheque for one hundred and fifty thousand dollars to Principal of Our Lady of Guadeloupe Roman Catholic high school, Barrett Belisle. The money will be pooled with a two hundred thousand dollar donation made by the Papal Nuncio during his visit to the institution earlier this year. Administrators plan to use the funds to begin construction of an eight-classroom building at the school’s future site along George Price Boulevard. Total cost of the structure is estimated at approximately eight hundred thousand dollars. Established in 2003, Our Lady currently has an enrolment of two hundred students but officials say their expansion plans should offer many more boys and girls the chance of a secondary education.
