E.U. funds Toledo micro credit programme
Ambitious residents of the Toledo District will soon be able to access new loan funds, thanks to a grant from the European Union. The eight hundred and fifty thousand Belize dollar fund, administered through the Toledo Teachers Credit Union, will be used for micro credit to the district’s small entrepreneurs. The money will become available over the next two weeks. The micro credit project is part of a larger E.U. programme to alleviate poverty in the country, focussing on rural areas that are feeling the pinch from reduction of subsidies on exports like bananas and sugar. Signing on behalf of the E.U. was Ambassador Marco Mazzochi Alemanni while C.E.O. Hugh O’Brien did the honours for the Ministry of National Development.
