Armed robber identified, remains on the run
An armed robber in Dangriga managed to jack a delivery truck for over three thousand dollars in cash but not without being identified. According to police, on Saturday morning someone called in an order to Quality Poultry’s Dangriga branch for a delivery of two hundred chickens to an address near the town’s airstrip. When driver Maynor Castellanos and sideman Fulton Castillo arrived at the location, the housed appeared to be abandoned. As they were leaving, however, a tall masked man came out of the house, approached the truck and put a gun to the side of Castellanos’ head. The robber then demanded money and grabbed the bag, containing three thousand, one hundred and ninety-eight dollars in cash. The crime wasn’t quite over, however, as Castellanos and Castillo fought back. Castillo was hit in the head with the gun, but Castellanos managed to disarm the bandit, stripping off his mask in the struggle. Lo and behold, Castellanos then saw a familiar face: twenty-one year old Sheldon Burgess, a former employee of Quality Poultry in Dangriga. Burgess, still in possession of the bag, took bush and tonight remains on the run. Castillo was treated for a knock to the back of his head and released from the Southern Regional Hospital. Police recovered the warm cap and a twenty-two calibre Beretta with two rounds of ammunition. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Sheldon Burgess is asked to call police or Crimestoppers at 0-800-922-8477.
