Fired worker upset B.T.L. won’t let her go to work
In other news from the labour front, the Belize Communication Workers Union has issued a press release condemning the decision by Belize Telecommunications Limited to refuse Christine Perriott access to any of their offices. The release asserts that B.T.L. is ignoring a direct court order to quote “restore Perriott to her position at the Internet Department as a technician with all employment entitlements.” For its part, the company has asserted that it has placed Perriott on special paid leave until the case regarding her termination is resolved in the Supreme Court. But tonight Perriott is calling B.T.L.’s decision to respond to any attempt by her to access any B.T.L. compound with armed security guards as a way to “intimidate, frustrate and union bust.” Our attempts to contact Minister of Labour Francis Fonseca on this issue this evening were unsuccessful.
