U.D.P. seeks resignation of its own P.G. councillor
The government of the People’s United Party is not the only political entity with a hotfoot in Toledo. According to a press release from the United Democratic Party’s Toledo East constituency, its own U.D.P. councillor, Wil Galvez, is being asked to resign his seat on the Punta Gorda Town Council. His crime? Apparently he is too close to the mayor of P.G., Carlos Galvez, who is both a P.U.P. and Wil’s brother. Each side in this battle accuses the other of working for private gain instead of the public good and where the dispute will end is unclear. At present, the U.D.P. has a five-two edge on the council, but one of those seats belongs to the P.U.P. Mayor.
And in other political news, we’d like to make a correction to several stories we had run on the recent village council election in Ladyville. We had reported that Independent candidate for Chairperson, Sharon Turton, had been a member of the previous council. In fact Turton informs us that her 2007 effort was the only time she has ever run for political office.
