Two charged in foiled heist
Following a brazen hold-up on Monday morning, today nineteen year old Ryan Welcome of Caesar Ridge Road and twenty-eight year old Kevin Sutherland of Faber’s Road were handcuffed and taken over to Magistrate’s Court where they were arraigned on a charge of robbery. Welcome and Sutherland are the two men police believe held up two employees of Diamonds International as they were about to make a deposit at the Scotiabank branch at mile two and a half on the Northern Highway.
Court reports are that around eleven yesterday morning Welcome and Sutherland, both armed with nine millimetre pistols, held up Jean Deeks and stole from her a backpack containing twenty-seven thousand, six hundred and forty-six U.S. dollars; three thousand, one hundred and fifty Belize dollars; eight thousand, two hundred and fifty-seven dollars in Belizean cheques; one thousand, one hundred and fifty dollars in U.S travellers cheques and one brown purse containing an assortment of expensive personal items, including a loaded nine millimetre licensed handgun valued at one thousand, eight hundred and thirty dollars. Welcome and Sutherland both pled not guilty and were remanded to Hattieville Prison until their next court date on May fourth.
