U.D.P. takes Ladyville Village Council
Week three of the nationwide balloting for village councils is now history and to absolutely nobody’s surprise, the major political parties once again have different interpretations of the results. According to a press release from the United Democratic Party, they won twenty-one of the thirty-eight villages outright and say that an additional four villages in Toledo East, where partisan preferences were not apparent, are at least U.D.P. friendly.
The release from the People’s United Party called it a nineteen-nineteen split, claiming the four Toledo villages that the U.D.P. said were its friends, plus Golden Stream, as well as Steadfast in the Stann Creek West constituency.
One location where there is no room for misinterpretation is Ladyville, the nation’s largest village. On Sunday voters there returned a U.D.P. team headed by Luciano Choc, by a margin of five hundred and ninety-two votes to two hundred and sixty-three for the P.U.P. An independent slate led by former councillor Sharon Thurton polled an impressive two hundred and forty-five votes. Voting for village councils resumes on April fifteenth and twenty-second.
